Treat Yourself Like a Business: A Guide to Self-Care
Hello Dear Hearts,
The other day I stepped outside for a mandatory mental health meeting in nature's conference room/backyard to my backyard. I was in a place of deep frustration and overwhelmed—a feeling that many of us who are raising children and or parents, especially those with neurodiversity challenges, know all too well. As a caregiver navigating the daily complexities of family life while running a business, I found myself at a breaking point, tears of frustration threatening to spill over.
The lack of support for parents, whether it's the high cost of daycare or the scarcity of appropriate programs for children with special needs, can be crushing. Add to that the guilt of investing time in external projects while your family struggles emotionally, and it's a recipe for burnout.
But here's your gentle reminder, born from my own need to regulate and recharge:
🌿 Go outside
🧘🏾♀️ Take three deep breaths
📱 Capture this moment (like I did!) (or don't if it's not your thing)
It's easy to forget how necessary these simple acts are until we find ourselves anxious, depressed, or dysregulated.
So here's a thought: What if we treated our mental health like a business project?
Many of us excel in corporate spaces. Imagine if we invested just half the effort we put into work projects into ourselves. Those organizations we've poured into are thriving - isn't it time we did the same for our well-being?
Action steps:
Schedule self-care like a business meeting
Allocate resources to your mental health "department"
Treat yourself as your most important client
As winter approaches, let's be proactive about our mental health, especially if the season typically challenges us. Here's a bold suggestion: Consider taking 20% off your plate to allow your body to align naturally with the changing season.
Remember, life will keep "lifing". But we have the power to prioritize our well-being through it all.
Let's take those three deep breaths together. Ready?
Inhale... Exhale...
Inhale... Exhale...
Inhale... Exhale...
Be well, dear hearts. Your mental health is your most important business.
